SISTERHOOD IS POWERFUL, INC. - Womens' Empowerment Study Group
Sisterhood Is Powerful, Inc. 2011 Yule Tree List

Glad tidings to all! It is that time of year , again, where we send out our Yule Tree List of people in our community, that you have the opportunity to adopt for Yule.

Listed below you will find wish list items and practical needs for the recipients. We do ask you to please mark the number of the recipient you have picked on all packages. If you wrap them , which is greatly appreciated, please make a list of what items you have decided to donate on their list. This way we can see if we can fill the rest. Most of the list has also asked for a Food Box so if you want to make Food Pantry donations that is appreciated. SIP is currently accepting donations of any items listed on this list that are in good condition new or used; if you can help with delivery of these items let us know. All items must be at SIP Headquarters no later than November 30. 2011. Please email:  ladyastarte584@yahoo.com or
motherearthoils@att.net with any questions or more details. Also be sure to email us with the number of the recipient you have chosen and we will send you a confirmation email. Send a first and second choice, in cases your first choice has already been assigned. Make sure all donations are in good condition and ready for re-gifting. Please make sure all food donations are within date code.  It is not required to fill everything on their wish list, just do what you can. We did ask everyone to please list as much information as they could to make the shopping easier. In many cases it is easier to get gift certificates when there are size issues and when you don’t know what their taste is or if they haven’t listed specific book titles. Gift certificates are always wonderful.
Most recipients love to shop anyway so don’t shy from adopting because you don’t know what to get. If you want to adopt a recipient and want us to do the shopping, after getting your confirmation, please donate by paypal at
or send  a check or money order  made out to: Sisterhood Is Powerful, Inc  to 1019 Union School Rd Knoxville, Tn. 37914. All checks and money orders must be received by Nov. 30, 2011. If you are paying by paypal add extra 3 % for processing fees because paypal deducts a percentage from each transaction and all paypal donations must be made by Nov. 23, 2011 because it takes them almost a week to deposit into our account.  1. Every year there are over 300 children that go through the doors at Children's Hospital who are prematurely born and need clothes and blankets. Used but in good condition, we can donate to the Clothes Closet at Children's Hospital, but the new clothes and blankets still in the packages can be given to the children directly.
Also, any stuffed animals that are new can be donated as well.
We also send donated stuffed animals to the Knox County Police Department to give to any children they have to remove from a home or setting, so they have something to cling to for support. We prefer to get new but we will take used items in good condition. Please be sure to wash all clothes and blankets before donating, if used. SISTERHOOD IS POWERFUL
 2011 Book Study Program:

This year we will have a book club for our spiritual empowerment reading and it will have a lot of diversity. We hope to have 21 Home Sponsors for this year. If you live in an apartment and are concerned about room then you might want to see if your apartment complex has a community room. If we don’t get 21 Home Sponsors I will pick a healthy eating establishment where we can meet that is conducive to book club conversations.
When we have Home Sponsors we will want to bring healthy appetizers for Potluck, to share, and a beverage of choice for ourselves. The book list will have some months that we will suggest authors and most months you can pick whatever book that author writes, to read and share your opinion of what the book meant. Some months we will have specific books from certain authors only because the authors choices are too numerous, and we want to make it easier for discussion. Some authors have ezines on their websites you can choose to read, instead of a book, and share your opinion on them to save on your time and finance budget. Some authors have books you can download for a fee if you so choose, to help save on shipping and handling costs. Some months will be a free month where books will be suggested or you can pick one of your favorite books you are led to share.
Why are we handling it this way? The locations are so everyone gets a chance to be involved and a new setting helps you feel like you are getting out for the night.
So there will be times you don’t have to travel and we come to you. As far as the book club choices we wanted something for every budget and diversity of interests. After all, not every person likes the same thing, so this way you have a voice and a choice. We also would like to have Home sponsors from Morristown, Sevierville and Oak Ridge, as well as Knoxville, so it will be more convenient for the women in each area to enjoy an evening of good food and books with us…companionship and camaraderie with fun and learning combined. This`helps with transportation issues if you have wanted to attend but cannot get to Knoxville.
Below is a list of the books and titles and/or websites for each month. Please choose your month and I will start scheduling these as soon as possible. The meeting dates will be on Saturdays. We will meet beginning at 7:00p.m. Months with 4 Saturdays we will meet twice a month and on the months with 5 Saturdays we will meet 3 times a month. I will strive for bi-weekly but due to other community venues this might not always be possible. This schedule will be subject to change as our community schedules fill in.
